Playa del Carmen January 2012

My birthday is January 31 and I despise cold weather. As I was thinking about what I wanted to do for my birthday this year, I thought it would be a great time to go somewhere warm. I’ve done the southern Florida thing in the winter and it’s warm, but not REALLY warm. So we began the search.

Back in 1992 my parents bought a timeshare that we use to vacation frequently. We had a couple of weeks built up so I asked my mom if I could use one of them. When I told her what I wanted to do, she wanted to go with Alecia and me. Sounds a little weird, right? But you’ve got to know my mom. I think she had more tequila on the trip than I did! She had been researching areas to retire in and there were some areas around Playa del Carmen that she wanted to visit. By the time we left for the trip, I wasn’t even sure if she was going to be on the flight home with us. Kinda cool…

We found a resort called the Grand Mayan and it was amazing. We couldn’t get a good read on what kind of beach was available, but after seeing the pools, not a big deal. Cozumel was a short trip away and one of the destinations on my bucket list, so let’s go. I got amazing deals on airline tickets from Expedia, so the countdown was on.

Delta Airlines – yet another successful trip.

I have other things to tell you guys, but would rather break them into mini-posts. You’ll LOVE one about the way the salesman killed the sale when I was interested in buying a unit. :) Now, on with the photos and video!

The End of 2011

2011 was an action-packed year for me, that’s for sure! January marked the month that Alecia and I started dating. It hasn’t quite been a year yet I feel like we’ve been together forever. I missed most of the motorcycle riding season due to the custom work taking forever to get done followed by a woman hitting my bike at a show. Thankfully, Insane Custom Rides was there to get it back on the road, but not before I bought another bike from their shop!

I was approached by several companies with job offers in the second half of the year. After talking it over with my brother, I decided to take a position at Resource Interactive. Family life aside, it’s been an excellent move for me personally and I look forward to a long career with them. Managing brands like Herbal Essences and some items for Pantene isn’t as intimidating as I thought! :)

The new job has allowed for personal change and growth and kicked me in gear to put a little money into the home. New television, couches, new car, fencing the back yard next week. 2012 will be the year that I get this place “finished” and ready to sell in the next few years.

2011 has been plenty stressful but has given me a clearer perspective on my life and what I want out of it. My goals are set and I’m really looking forward to the next decade of my life: a family of my own. I’m no spring chicken anymore, so I may as well reproduce and pass on all the things I know. Well, maybe just MOST of the things I know…

And I’m only making one resolution: to get my butt back in the gym. I took the entire year of 2011 off and after spending only a couple days in the gym this week, I hate myself for not sticking with it. That’s it.

Here’s to you and yours, may you bring in the New Year with someone you love surrounded by friends you enjoy!
