The Best Breakfasts
As many of you know, I’ve been getting back on track to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Several weeks ago my friend Lee came to stay for a week. In the mornings, he would fix a smoothie for breakfast and I was shocked at how long they curbed my appetite. Frozen berries, a banana, some whey protein, spinach, almond butter, etc. We would have one at 8am and I wouldn’t get hungry for lunch until noon or after.
That led to me going to Barnes & Noble to purchase a book on juicing. Two days later I spent $50 at the grocery on different fruits and vegetables. I will post some of the recipes over the next few months so you can try for yourself. The book is amazing – it has different juicing recipes for different ailments (stress, blood pressure, Alzheimer’s, etc.) and I’ve found many of them to work well.
And I’m back in my home gym after a three month sabbatical. Let me just say, it’s quite disheartening when I had to pull 30lbs off the bench press from what I was doing months ago. Ah well, that’s more of an incentive to push harder (pun intended).
Dieting Will Kill Me
Now that I have your attention, let me explain.
My brother and I went to lunch yesterday. He is on some diet where he’s supposed to cut out eating things that are white. No rice, little bread, etc. It’s what some trainer told him and he’s giving it a try. So for lunch, he orders a bunch of sashimi and a seaweed salad.
I sit across from him with my 1/2lb. Beer Cheese Burger and 1lb loaded baked potato. Healthy? Of course not. But it tasted great.
We talked about several different diets and I told him I didn’t believe in any of them. Sure, they probably work, but who REALLY wants to count calories or carbs every single time they eat? I think it’s a lifestyle choice. Smaller portions (except for that lunch I mentioned above), more meals per day, and try to eat things that are healthy.
I don’t eat like a rabbit, but I cut out fast food and soft drinks. I try to eat lots of chicken and vegetables and a couple times a week I get a big portion of red meat to give me real protein other than the whey drinks I have twice a day. I think it’s a lifestyle choice to eat healthy – I don’t eat crap foods and it will benefit me.
There are a million people who will argue everything I’ve had to say and that’s fine. That’s why this is MY blog and not theirs.
So comment up, tell me what you think.
